Coalition for an AI TreatyCoalition pour un traité sur l’IA

Leading AI companies say they are working to build superintelligence: AI that would outperform humans at almost every task that involves thinking. Many AI researchers warn it could escape human control.

March with us on 14 NovemberJoin the coalition

Saturday 14 November

We march in Montréal and Toronto, alongside marches for an AI treaty in several US cities.

Four days later, the APEC summit meets in Shenzhen. We ask the Prime Minister to raise this treaty there with the presidents of the United States and China.

Our shared statement

We call for an international treaty that prohibits the development of superintelligence until there is broad scientific consensus that it can be done safely and controllably, and strong public buy-in.

It must bind every country able to build it, starting with the United States and China, and let each verify that the others comply.

Canada endorsed the Call for Control of Frontier AI Models, which envisages an international institution. We ask Canada to make this prohibition part of that institution’s mandate, and we ask the provincial and territorial legislatures, including Québec’s National Assembly, to support this demand.
